Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Ascension Volleyball for?
Ascension offers volleyball development for youth athletes across Haliburton County - from those picking up a volleyball for the first time to athletes looking for more focused, high level training and a pathway toward competitive volleyball. Â We also offer programs for adults of all skill levels, looking for consistent training and opportunities for game play.
Does my child need volleyball experience?
No. Our Development & Play programs welcome athletes of all experience levels, including those who are completely new to volleyball. Sessions are designed to meet athletes where they are and help them build skills through instruction, repetition and play.
What if my child already plays volleyball?
That’s totally welcome! Ascension Volleyball provides additional opportunities to build technical skills, improve consistency and get more time on the court. Athletes who are looking for a greater challenge may also be a good fit for Prep for Rep - we have big goals for an OVA team in 2027!
How do I know which program is right for my child?
Start with your child's age, experience and goals.

Development & Play is a great starting point for athletes who are new to volleyball or want to continue building their fundamentals.

Prep for Rep is designed for athletes who already have volleyball experience and are ready for more focused, higher-level training.
If you're unsure, contact us and we'll help you find the best fit.
Does my child need to try out?
No, there are no try outs this year. Â Currently, what we are offering are training programs, not competitive teams. Â
Does joining Prep for Prep mean my child will make competitive team?
No. Prep for Rep is a development and preparation program. It is designed to help athletes build the skills, experience and training habits needed for competitive volleyball. Ascension intends to form an OVA competitive team in 2027 once consistent interest and athlete development support that next step.
What will my child do during a typical session? Will there be game play?
Sessions combine technical instruction, skill repetitions, movement, small-group work and game or game-like activities. The goal is to give athletes both focused skill development and opportunities to apply those skills while playing.

Game play and game-like activities are an important part of our programming. Athletes have opportunities to apply the skills they're learning in realistic situations.
Is Ascension Volleyball a competitive club?
Ascension is currently building toward competitive volleyball in Haliburton County. Our focus right now is developing a strong foundation of local athletes through consistent training and development. Prep for Rep is part of that process, helping athletes prepare for the demands of higher-level volleyball.
Â
Our intention is to form an OVA competitive team in 2027 once there is consistent interest and a strong enough athlete base to support a team. Our fall programs are an important part of building toward that goal.
